The Baulking House, which stands on the St Ives Coast Path, was used during the traditional pilchard fishing of the 19th and early 20th centuries. From here a lookout, called a ‘huer’, kept watch for the tell-tale purple stain of pilchard shoals in the bay below.

‘The Baulking House’ is a blog with a left-of-centre political view from the bottom left hand corner of the UK.
